Licensed pilots can learn the art of tailwheel flying in this fantastic training aircraft The Chipmunk is revered for its legendary handling characteristics.

Our highly experienced Instructor will take you through the syllabus to convert you from a tricycle pilot to a tailwheel pilot. Learn the skill of 3-point landings, wheelers, short field and soft field as well as hard runway ops.

Our course is designed by experienced Chipmunk instructors with a great depth of knowledge & understanding of this aircraft. Complete the course as a true tailwheel pilot and open a new aviation chapter in your flying career.

Air Introductory flight

Take flight in the aeroplane that has become affectionately known as “The Poor Man’s Spitfire,” the de Havilland Chipmunk offers a graceful flight experience, suburb in flight handling & graceful landings, earning the Chipmunk its place as a firm favourite in the aviation world.

The DHC-1 Chipmunk entered RAF service in 1950 as a replacement for the Tiger Moth as a faster & more agile pilot training aircraft. King Charles III received his initial military pilot training on the Chipmunk. The Chipmunk earned its fame through its service with RAF as well as its air introductory flights, where many a young Air Cadet sampled their first taste of the air. Location

White Waltham Airfield is home to the West London Aero Club (WLAC) and is one of the oldest and best-known airfields in the country. Set on 200 acres on the edge of a picturesque estate in the beautiful Berkshire countryside, it is also reputedly the largest grass airfield in Britain.

The airfield is situated just three miles from the M4 (J8/9) and six miles from the M40 (J4). Central London is only 35 miles away and easily accessible by train or taxi. Windsor, Ascot, Henley, Reading, and Maidenhead are all within easy reach.

The only Chipmunk flight training school in the South Of England. White Waltham Airfield boasts multiple runways allowing in to wind training throughout the year.

The history

The de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk is a tandem, two-seat, single-engine primary designed and developed by Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland.

It was developed shortly after World War II and sold in large numbers during the post-war years, being typically employed as a replacement for the De Havilland Tiger Moth.
